Blog on Bloggers Day October 15th

Well folks. Just seen the viral for the bloggers doo dah on climate change and thought i'd take part. Here's the skinny on climate change as I see it. If we all, individually make a change to our lives to try and halt or slow down climate change then we will succeed.
Hmm, what can I do? Well, my new car certainly is not a gas guzzler. And I try to not overuse electricity, or gas. I could cycle instead of riding a motorbike to work but it would take me about 5 hours so thats not realistic. I fly a lot but will try and make less flights when I can (take a train within Europe). And I wont drive when I dont need to. And i'll try and buy from climate friendly comapnies....there. Thats gotta make a difference.
I heard that the biggest single producer of green house gases, and hence the biggest single contributor to climate change is......wait for it.....METHANE produced mainly by cattle farting. I kid you not. So, instead of skipping dairy products and burgers (soz, but I love em) i'm going to educate cows when I see them to suck it up and be a bit more polite. And stop guffing our planet to bits.
Bloody cows. You just cant trust them.
On a more seriousnote, if we all do our bit it will make a difference.

Its been too long

Well. Been doing all sorts since my last post. Lots of stuff on YouTube, worky things (zzz), lunches (mmm) and travel. However, saw this nugget of Simpsons gold which, as a father of three felt I had to share. Laugh? Not half!

As for things in International Ad Land, life is rosy I guess. Business is good. Plenty of global campaigns have centralised buying, which if you work in London is a good thing, as its still one of the global hotspots for international media planning and buying. As for me, I'm off to Cairo for the second time in the last month or so. I wouldn't have believed it a few months ago but its a vibrant city with some real business opps. Will keep you all posted. Big shout to any Adgabbers reading too. Adman

Old folk made me smile

Well, not really here to report on international ad world today but this ad just made me smile. Which is unusual as I'm quite an ageist and old folk normally make me grimace. Have a smile at this one. Adman

Its been a while

Been a while since my last entry. Busy, busy, busy in the land of ad sales so no time. Business seems to be booming and first half for me is up arounf 40% of 2005. But as an esteemed colleague mentioned to me yesterday, all that now has to be repeated in the second half. Two excellent ads to add today. The first below was created by Saatchi and Saatchi for Level 42 Vodka (rumour has it they were paid in Vodka for this work) and the executions won a Gold Lion at Cannes. I wonder, are those Lions really mad of gold.

The second below is for Mastercard, but I dont think it actually ran. Probably censored by whoever. Anyway, very funny.

Anyway, hope you like the above. Very clever. In the mean time my travel schedules are changing from business travel to vacation time in warmer climates. Just a quick trip to the 'dam and back before holidays begin. Tralala. Adman.

i-Pod madness and Dubai

Well I have a feeling Apple iPod are about to tickle our fancy with an ad campaign that should knock your socks off. Rumour has it a while ago Steve Jobs won a big patch of land in Australia somewhere in a poker game (really). Since that win he has been developing this land (one million Sqaure yards if the rumour mill is to be believed) into the worlds largest outdoor ad. For a video iPod. Sound mad? Well its the real deal. See the picture above and click on this link http://maps.google.com/?t=k&ll=-30.516354,121.336956&spn=0.293105,0.234146 for a live feed via google earth to the patch of land / ad itself. I think this will break at the weekend when Apple turns 30. Or maybe to launch a new iPod (touch screen).

On the business side of things I just got back from Dubai where the IAA World Congress was held. Much madness out there as a) Dubai is a mad city b) too many admen in one place at one time creates mayhem and c) has anyone told these Arab's that they are not supposed to get drunk? Talk about a booze up. Everyone was on the sauce. Some great, and not so great speakers. Jose Maria Aznar had plenty to say but unfortunately was reading his speach in English and you couldn't really understand him. At all. Shame, nice guy. (Adman had a chat with him too AND he wrote a nice note to Adman's Grandma in Madrid - ahh, bless). Lord Heseltine was juszzzzzzzz, zzzzzzzzzz, sorry, fell aslepp just thinking about his speach. Tarzan has definitely lost his edge. I think life in the Jungle has final taken its toll. Time to step down Sir Mike. The mighty midget Sorrell didn't show up but sent a note from his Mum. Sheik Mohamed al Maktoum (or something like that) opened the congress, swept in, sat down, was photographed and then swept out again. I applauded the same as everyone else but only because he is so rich. Otherwise I wouldn't have bothered.
As for Gossip - I couldn't start as I wouldn't be able to stop. Maybe I'll start in my next installment. Life is sweet. Adman

Just back from CeBit

Well, managed to make it back from the tech fest that is CeBit. Plenty going on out there and good to get a taste of what the IT world has to offer. Plenty of money flying around in mobile comms, services, software and banking but less and less on traditional hardware it seems. If I was Micheal Dell I would be looking to move into other things - but then he aleady is isn't he? Anyhoo, I have got to add that Tobit do the best after show parties EVER. If anyone else crashed the opening night party at the Tobit stand then you know exactly what I mean. And those poor folks on the IDG stand next door have to be admired for sticking to their corporate guns and staying at their own booth party whilst next door about 1,000 nutters went crazy. Still I have no idea what Tobit do, but who cares? I'll buy their products if I get a chaqnce from now on. What about all this WPP business in Italy then? Dont have time for details but its twistier and turnier than the plot of Desparate Housewives. Will recount all in time. Finally, check out the video below. I'm loving it. Adman

Microsoft in denial

Just heard on the grapevine that Microsoft are vigorously denying that they are about to dump their media network (Universal McCann). In my book that means Universal McCann better find a replacement client or 10 because their days are numbered. You heard it here first. Any strong denial can only mean one thing.

On a lighter note click on this link www.tbshumorstudy.com for a natty little site by the American cable channel TBS. Mr Cleese on good form as always. Gotta go. Adman
